In response to an appeal filed today to the recent federal court ruling that deemed the minister's housing allowance unconstitutional, Dr. Richard Hammar, legal counsel for the General Council of the Assemblies of God, released the following comment:

On January 24, 2014, the United States Department of Justice filed notice that it is appealing the ruling last year by a federal court in Wisconsin striking down the housing allowance as an unconstitutional preference for religion. The appeal is to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago. The appeal could take up to a year to resolve. The Wisconsin court’s ruling is delayed pending the outcome of the appeal.
