For Andy and Margaret, generosity has never been an afterthought.
It’s been one of the defining principles of their family since the early days of their marriage. They wanted their home to be shaped by a spirit of giving—something their kids would see, experience, and eventually own for themselves.
“We wanted generosity to anchor our family,” Andy shares. “It’s kept our hearts aligned with what God is doing.”
That value shaped their giving habits early on, even when finances were tight, and later guided them as their careers grew—Margaret through campus ministry with Chi Alpha and Andy through the tech world. Over time, they developed a focused approach to giving: supporting widows and orphans, investing in campus missionaries, and strengthening their local church.
It’s for the kids, too.
One of their favorite family traditions that developed as their children grew was to set aside some of their giving for their children to direct. Through their own research, the children would discuss needs of faith-based ministries, and choose where to allocate the gifts. This tradition has helped the younger generation discover new ministries while taking ownership of their own generosity.
“It’s been meaningful watching them light up about ministries they’ve found,” Andy remarks. “It’s become part of how they live out their faith.”
Donor Advised Funds changed everything.
Before discovering Donor Advised Funds (DAFs), giving noncash gifts like appreciated stock was a complicated process—tracking down ministry account numbers, handling transfers manually, and navigating layers of verification and bureaucracy.
A DAF simplified everything.
“It streamlined the entire process,” Andy mentions, “And with AGFinancial, giving became truly frictionless.”
What stood out to them about AGFinancial?
- Grant requests: Always simple and relational.
- No unnecessary red tape: AGFinancial understands ministries, removing the bureaucracy encountered elsewhere.
- The ministry receives the full value of the gift: By giving appreciated assets directly, no portion is lost to taxes.
- Kingdom impact even before the gift is granted: Undistributed DAF funds are used to provide loans to churches for ministry growth.
“It’s a much more effective way to give,” Margaret adds. “Everything is organized in one place. Tax season is easier, and every dollar goes farther.”
A tool for every generation.
Many people assume DAFs are for older adults, but Andy and Margaret know otherwise.
“It’s not an age issue—it’s a knowledge issue,” Andy says. Young professionals with even small amounts of appreciated assets can start giving more strategically right away. Their own children have already begun setting up DAFs, including through AGFinancial.
AGFinancial’s Donor Advised Funds have not only made giving easier for Andy and Margaret, but their use has amplified the impact of their family giving, and helped extend their legacy of generosity to the next generation.
“It ensures every penny we give is going to the Kingdom,” Andy comments. “And that’s exactly what we want.”
